County deeds show SpaceX has bought about 2,000 acres in Cameron County in 2026

Aerial map from the Port of Brownsville to the Rio Grande. Long light blue tracts mark about 1,500 acres from September deeds. Yellow tracts farther east along Highway 4 mark about 470 acres from October and November deeds

Eight SpaceX deeds recorded with the Cameron County Clerk so far in 2026 add up to about 2,000 acres. Gateway to Mars broke the deeds behind the two biggest rounds: about 1,500 acres on Oct. 16, 2026, and the newest tracts on Nov. 6, 2026. RGV Business Journal reported the pending purchase from 28 landowners on Aug. 30, 2026.

  • September, about 1,500 acres: two deeds recorded Sept. 18 and Sept. 21, 2026 cover a 98.3% interest in the surface of 1,414.68 acres and the surface of 86.26 acres near the Port of Brownsville (documents 2026-34223 and 2026-34443). Sellers in the larger deed kept the minerals.
  • October and November, about 470 acres: 79.01 acres recorded Oct. 22, 2026 (document 2026-38676), then 245.36, 143.79 and 1 acre recorded Nov. 4, 2026 (documents 2026-40565, 2026-40575 and 2026-40555).
  • July, about 37 acres: 26.74 acres recorded July 27, 2026 and 10.10 acres recorded July 31, 2026, both in the San Martin Grant (documents 2026-26979 and 2026-27768).
  • Not counted: other 2026 deeds, mostly subdivision lots, and the refuge swap recorded Oct. 5, 2026, about 727 acres in and 683.01 acres out (documents 2026-36287 and 2026-36288). One lot deed, recorded May 11, 2026, lists lots in several subdivisions (document 2026-16761). This counts land that came in, not land SpaceX deeded away, so it is not SpaceX's total holdings.
  • Not one block: the tracts sit in several separate areas, with other parcels between some of them.
  • No price: none of these deeds gives a sale price.
  • A separate agreement: the Nov. 4, 2026 deeds for the two big tracts mention a "separate Agreement Regarding Further Purchases and Confidentiality." They don't give its terms.

What it is for: the deeds don't say. A city notice says SpaceX proposes a gas-fired power plant and "super-compute facility" on about 444 acres between Boca Chica Blvd and the Port of Brownsville. That size and location match the middle of the September land (our Nov. 6, 2026 story).

Our earlier stories: about 1,500 acres, Oct. 16, 2026 · 79 acres, Oct. 28, 2026 · the Nov. 4, 2026 deeds.

Next: we'll report any more SpaceX deeds we find.
