A state filing for SpaceX's "Boca Chica Facility" lists 35 natural gas turbines at first, then eight larger ones, The 956 Report reported Tuesday. Joshua Moroles obtained the filing and showed its pages in a video.

What we could check: TCEQ's public Permit Search still showed no documents for this registration, No. 185303, on Tuesday evening, so the details below come from his report. The customer number and Sept. 8, 2026 date in his video match TCEQ's record for SpaceX's registration, and his turbine counts add up to his totals. We've asked TCEQ for its copy.

  • At first: 35 turbines the filing calls temporary: 8 GE Vernova TM2500, 9 Mitsubishi FT8 and 18 Solar SMT-130, about 748 megawatts together.
  • Later: eight GE Vernova 7E turbines, about 708 megawatts, running "as the initial units are removed from the site."
  • When: the report says the start of construction and the start of operation are both listed as "TBD."
  • Air limits: the report puts the proposed nitrogen oxides cap for the first phase at 248.86 tons a year, just under the 250-ton line for a full federal major-source review.
  • Where: a parcel north of Highway 4. The coordinates he reports fall at the north end of the 444 acres, by our plot.

What the power is for: SpaceX hasn't said. TCEQ's registry also lists the industry code "Computer Processing and Data Preparation and Processing Services," as we reported Oct. 18. City of Starbase records list a SpaceX permit application for the 444 acres at "40193 TX 4 Data Center."

Next: TCEQ lists the registration as pending. We'll post the filing when we get it.
